Béla Kovács (politician)
Béla Kovács was a Hungarian politician and general secretary of the Independent Smallholders' Party, the largest party after the elections of 1945. In February 1947 Soviet forces arrested him on charges of conspiracy, in defiance of his parliamentary immunity, and deported him to the Soviet Union, a key step in the communist takeover. He returned in 1956 and served briefly in Imre Nagy's government during the revolution.
