Imre Nagy
Imre Nagy was a Hungarian communist who as prime minister from 1953 to 1955 eased Stalinist repression before being ousted. During the revolution of October 1956 he returned to power, accepted a multi-party system and declared Hungary's neutrality and withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact. Soviet forces crushed the revolution, and he was secretly tried and executed in 1958.
