László Rajk

1909–1949 · 20th century

László Rajk was a Hungarian communist who served as minister of the interior from 1946 to 1948 and then as foreign minister. In 1949 he was arrested, accused of spying for Tito's Yugoslavia and the West, and condemned in a show trial organised by Mátyás Rákosi; he was executed in October 1949. His reburial in October 1956 helped spark the Hungarian Revolution.
