Lastovo

Lastovo is an island in the southern Adriatic, part of Croatia, lying about 80 kilometres west of Dubrovnik. It came under the Republic of Ragusa in the thirteenth century and kept its own statute and a degree of self-government until the republic's fall. After 1815 it passed to Austria and from 1920 to 1947 belonged to Italy, and much of the island is now a nature park.
