Cavtat

Also known as Epidaurum

Cavtat is a small town on the Adriatic coast of southern Croatia, south-east of Dubrovnik, on the site of the Greek and Roman town of Epidaurum. According to tradition, refugees from Epidaurum founded Ragusa (Dubrovnik) after the town was destroyed by Avars and Slavs in the seventh century. Later part of the Republic of Ragusa, it is known for the Račić family mausoleum by Ivan Meštrović and as the birthplace of the painter Vlaho Bukovac.
