František Palacký

1798–1876 · 19th century

František Palacký was a Czech historian and politician, called the "father of the nation". His multi-volume "History of the Czech Nation in Bohemia and Moravia" presented the Hussite era as the high point of Czech history. In 1848 he declined to attend the Frankfurt Parliament, presided over the Slav Congress in Prague and argued for a federal Austria that would protect the Slav peoples.
