Front for the Restoration of Unity and Democracy

1991–present · 20th century · Also known as FRUD

The Front for the Restoration of Unity and Democracy (FRUD) is a political movement of the Afar people of Djibouti, formed in 1991. It launched an armed rebellion that year against the government of Hassan Gouled Aptidon, protesting at the dominance of the Issa Somali. A peace accord in 1994 brought its main wing into government, and a radical faction fought on until agreements of 2000 and 2001.
