Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda

1963 · 20th century · Also known as FLEC

The Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) is a separatist movement seeking independence for Cabinda, the oil-rich Angolan exclave north of the Congo River. Founded in 1963 from earlier Cabindan movements, it claimed independence in 1975 but was excluded from the Alvor Agreement, which made Cabinda part of Angola. Its factions have kept up a low-level armed struggle since then.
