Leopold II
Leopold II was King of the Belgians from 1865 to 1909 and personal ruler of the Congo Free State, a regime notorious for its brutal exploitation. Forces of the Congo Free State absorbed the remnants of the Luba Empire after 1893. This effectively ended autonomous Luba rule in the region.
