Leopold I, Prince of Lippe

1767–1802 · 18th century

Leopold I was count and, from 1789, the first prince of Lippe, a small state in north-western Germany. He took up the princely rank granted to the family earlier in the century, turning the County of Lippe-Detmold into the Principality of Lippe. After his death in 1802 his widow Pauline governed as regent until 1820.
