Brussels
Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the seat of the main institutions of the European Union and of NATO's headquarters. It grew from a settlement on the Senne, fortified by the counts of Louvain in the 11th century, into a residence of the dukes of Brabant and the Burgundian and Habsburg rulers of the Low Countries. A revolt in Brussels in August 1830 launched the Belgian Revolution.
