Luba Empire

Also known as Luba

The Luba Empire was a Central African state in the Upemba region of the south-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, flourishing from about the sixteenth to the late nineteenth century. It was built around a sacred kingship and a network of tributary chiefdoms, with institutions such as the Bambudye society preserving its traditions. The Luba model of rule influenced neighbouring states, notably the Lunda Empire.
