Lunda Empire
The Lunda Empire was a Central African state in the south of the present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo and parts of Angola and Zambia, flourishing from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. Its kingship drew on Luba political models, and it expanded through a flexible system of tributary chiefdoms. It traded copper, ivory and slaves across the region and took part in the Atlantic trade.
