Congo River

The Congo River is the second longest river in Africa, flowing through Central Africa to the Atlantic. The Kingdom of Kongo occupied the lands south of its lower course. The river's mouth was reached by the Portuguese in the 1480s, leading to the Kongo Empire's contact with Portugal.
