Congo Reform Association

1904–1913 · 20th century

The Congo Reform Association was a humanitarian campaign founded in 1904 by the journalist E. D. Morel with Roger Casement to expose abuses in King Leopold II's Congo Free State. Using mass meetings, photographs and press campaigns in Britain and the United States, it helped force Belgium to annex the Congo in 1908 and was dissolved in 1913.
