Fulk I, Count of Anjou

c. 870–942 · 10th century · Also known as Fulk the Red

Fulk I, called the Red, was the first count of Anjou of the Ingelger dynasty and the son of Ingelger. Building on his father's position around Angers, he became viscount and was styled count by about 930, turning a frontier command against Bretons and Vikings into a hereditary principality. His descendants included Fulk Nerra and Geoffrey Plantagenet, ancestors of the Angevin kings of England.
