Holy League (1511)

1511–1513 · 16th century

The Holy League of 1511 was an alliance formed by Pope Julius II with Venice, Spain and later England, the Swiss and the Holy Roman Emperor, to drive the French out of Italy during the War of the League of Cambrai. Despite a French victory at Ravenna in 1512, Swiss and allied pressure forced the French to withdraw, and the papacy gained Parma and Piacenza.
