Immigration Restriction Act 1901
The Immigration Restriction Act 1901 was among the first laws of the new Australian federal parliament and the legal basis of the White Australia policy. It allowed officials to exclude migrants by a dictation test of fifty words in any European language, used to keep out non-Europeans. It was replaced by the Migration Act 1958.
