Jehoiada

9th century BCE · 9th century BCE

Jehoiada was a priest in Jerusalem in the 9th century BCE who, according to the Bible, led the coup that overthrew Queen Athaliah. He had hidden the young prince Joash in the temple for six years, then crowned him with the help of the royal guard and had Athaliah killed. He acted as the boy king's guardian and supported the repair of the temple.
