Jeolla Province
Jeolla Province was one of the Eight Provinces of Joseon Korea, in the fertile south-west of the peninsula, divided in 1896 into North and South Jeolla. Once part of the Mahan confederacy and then Baekje, it was the base of Later Baekje in the 10th century and of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894. Its name joins those of its two main towns, Jeonju and Naju.
