Juan Francisco de León
Juan Francisco de León was a Canary Islands-born cacao planter and local official in the Spanish province of Venezuela. In 1749 he led an armed march on Caracas against the Guipuzcoan Company of Caracas, whose monopoly hurt local growers, and demanded the expulsion of its Basque agents. After the revolt was suppressed he surrendered, and he died a prisoner in Spain in 1752.
