Juan Guaidó

b. 1983 · 21st century

Juan Guaidó is a Venezuelan opposition politician who, as president of the National Assembly, declared himself interim president in January 2019, arguing that Nicolás Maduro's re-election in 2018 was illegitimate. The United States, most of the European Union and many Latin American governments recognised him, but Maduro kept control of the army and the state. The opposition dissolved his interim government at the end of 2022, and he left for the United States in 2023.
