Kaʻieʻiewaho Channel
The Kaʻieʻiewaho Channel separates the islands of Oʻahu and Kauaʻi in Hawaii and is about 115 kilometres wide, the widest channel between the main Hawaiian Islands. Its rough waters protected Kauaʻi from invasion: Kamehameha I's attempts to cross with large fleets in 1796 and 1804 were turned back by a storm and an epidemic. Kauaʻi joined his kingdom by agreement in 1810.
