Kaunghmudaw Pagoda

1636–1648 · 17th century

The Kaunghmudaw Pagoda is a large Buddhist stupa near Sagaing in Myanmar, built by King Thalun of the Restored Toungoo dynasty between 1636 and 1648. Its great dome, modelled according to tradition on Sri Lankan stupas, enshrines relics believed to include a tooth of the Buddha. It remains a major place of pilgrimage.
