Labourd

Also known as Lapurdi

Labourd (Basque Lapurdi) is one of the three historic Basque provinces of France, on the Atlantic coast near Bayonne, with Ustaritz as its old seat of assembly. It was a viscounty and later part of the English duchy of Aquitaine before returning to the French crown in 1451, and it kept its own assembly and customs until the Revolution. In 1609 it suffered a notorious witch hunt led by Pierre de Lancre.
