Lemkos
The Lemkos are an East Slavic people of the Low Beskid and neighbouring Carpathian mountains in south-eastern Poland, with related communities in Slovakia and Ukraine. Many identify as a distinct Rusyn group, while others regard themselves as Ukrainians. Most Lemkos in Poland were deported to the Soviet Union in 1944–1946 or resettled in western Poland in Operation Vistula in 1947, and only some later returned.
