Slovakia
Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe, with its capital at Bratislava, bordered by Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Austria and Czechia. From the 11th century until 1918 its lands formed the northern part of the Kingdom of Hungary, and they then became part of Czechoslovakia. Apart from a German client state of 1939–1945, it has been independent only since the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia on 1 January 1993, and it joined the European Union in 2004.
