Leventina

The Leventina is the upper valley of the River Ticino in southern Switzerland, running from Airolo at the foot of the Gotthard Pass down to Biasca. Uri took control of it in the 15th century, securing its hold after the victory at Giornico in 1478, and ruled it as a subject territory until 1798. It is now part of the canton of Ticino.
