Mainz Diocesan Feud
The Mainz Diocesan Feud was a war of 1461–1462 over the archbishopric of Mainz between Diether von Isenburg and Adolf II of Nassau, whom the pope had appointed after deposing Diether. Diether's ally Frederick I of the Palatinate won the Battle of Seckenheim in 1462, but Adolf's troops took Mainz by surprise in October 1462. The city lost its status as a free city.
