Maio of Bari
Maio of Bari was the chief minister of William I of Sicily, holding the title emir of emirs from 1154. The son of a judge of Bari, he dominated the royal government and was hated by the barons, who blamed him for the loss of the North African territories to the Almohads. He was murdered in Palermo on 10 November 1160 by conspirators led by Matthew Bonellus.
