Palermo
Palermo is the capital of Sicily, on a bay of the island's north-western coast. Founded by the Phoenicians and known to Greeks and Romans as Panormus, it was taken by the Aghlabids in 831 and became the capital of the Emirate of Sicily and then of the Norman kingdom, whose first king was crowned there in 1130. The Sicilian Vespers revolt began there in 1282.
