Maupiti

Maupiti is the westernmost high island of the Leeward Society Islands in French Polynesia, a small volcanic island surrounded by a lagoon and low coral islets, about 40 kilometres west of Bora Bora. In the 18th century it was conquered by the chiefs of Bora Bora. It has notable marae and early archaeological sites that have shed light on the settlement of eastern Polynesia.
