Mayamara Satra
The Mayamara Satra, often called the Moamaria satra, is a Vaishnavite monastery of Assam founded by Aniruddhadeva in the early seventeenth century. Its followers, many of them Morans, Kacharis and lower-caste peasants, were persecuted by Ahom kings who favoured Shaktism, and their resentment fuelled the Moamoria rebellion that began in 1769 and gravely weakened the Ahom kingdom.
