Mokjong of Goryeo

980–1009 · 10th century

Mokjong of Goryeo was king of Goryeo from 997 to 1009. His reign was dominated by his mother, the queen dowager, and her favourite. In 1009 the general Gang Jo deposed and then killed him, placing Hyeonjong on the throne, and the Khitan Liao dynasty used his deposition as the pretext for its invasion of 1010.
