Murud-Janjira
Murud-Janjira is an island fortress off the town of Murud on the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, India. Fortified in stone in the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the stronghold of the Siddis, who ruled the state of Janjira from it. Its high walls and position at sea let it resist repeated attacks by the Marathas under Shivaji and Sambhaji, as well as the Portuguese and the British.
