Konkan coast
The Konkan coast is the strip of land along the western coast of India between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. It was strategically important to the Maratha Empire, which built coastal forts and a navy there. Maratha naval commanders operating from the Konkan contested control of the coast with European powers and the Siddis of Janjira.
