New Economic Policy (Bolivia)
The New Economic Policy was the stabilisation programme introduced in Bolivia by President Víctor Paz Estenssoro through Supreme Decree 21060 of August 1985. It ended hyperinflation by floating the currency, freeing prices and cutting public spending. The closure of most state tin mines and the dismissal of more than 20,000 miners broke the power of the mining unions and drove migration to El Alto and the Chapare.
