Nguyen Van Thinh

1888–1946 · 20th century

Nguyen Van Thinh was a Saigon physician and politician who became the first president of the French-backed Autonomous Republic of Cochinchina in June 1946. The government had little popular support and was denounced by nationalists as a French creation. Isolated and disillusioned, he took his own life in November 1946.
