ʻOro
ʻOro was a god of war and fertility in the religion of the Society Islands in eastern Polynesia, said to be a son of the creator Taʻaroa. His cult spread from the great marae of Taputapuātea on Raiatea to Tahiti and beyond in the 17th and 18th centuries, carried by chiefs and by the Arioi society of performers. It declined after Christian conversion in the 1810s.
