Person
Osberht of Northumbria
Osberht (died 867) was king of Northumbria from about 849. In the 860s he was displaced by Ælla, but when the Great Heathen Army captured York in 866 the two rivals made peace to fight the Danes together. In March 867 they broke into the city, but both kings were killed and the Northumbrian army destroyed, ending the independence of the southern part of the kingdom.
