Peter II of Cyprus

c. 1357–1382 · 14th century

Peter II was king of Cyprus from 1369, after the murder of his father Peter I. At his coronation as king of Jerusalem in Famagusta in 1372, a quarrel over precedence between Genoese and Venetian merchants led to riots in which Genoese were killed. Genoa retaliated with an invasion in 1373, and Peter had to cede Famagusta to Genoa and pay a heavy indemnity.
