Pisiri

fl. 738–717 BCE · 8th century BCE

Pisiri was the last king of Carchemish, the leading Neo-Hittite kingdom on the Euphrates. Long a tributary of Assyria, he was accused of plotting with Mita (Midas) of Phrygia, and in 717 BCE Sargon II deposed him, deported him with his family and made Carchemish an Assyrian province. His fall ended the last major Neo-Hittite state.
