Pope Innocent XII

1615–1700 · 17th century · Also known as Antonio Pignatelli

Innocent XII was pope from 1691 to 1700. Born into a Neapolitan noble family, he set out to reform the Curia, and in 1692 his bull Romanum decet Pontificem forbade popes to grant estates, offices or revenues to their relatives and limited to one the number of relatives who could be made cardinals, ending the worst abuses of papal nepotism.
