1936–1941 · 20th century

The Popular Front was a coalition of Chilean centre and left parties, led by the Radical Party with the Socialists and Communists, formed in 1936. Its candidate Pedro Aguirre Cerda narrowly won the presidential election of 1938, and his government founded the development agency CORFO in 1939 to promote industry after the Chillán earthquake. The coalition broke up in 1941.
