Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung
Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, known in English as the Little Red Book, is a compilation of quotations from the speeches and writings of Mao Zedong, published in China from 1964 to 1979 and widely distributed during the Cultural Revolution. It was first compiled by an office of the PLA Daily as an ideological handbook for the People's Liberation Army. The definitive 1965 version held 427 quotations in 33 thematic chapters, and from August 1966 the People's Publishing House printed it for the public. From the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s it was the most printed book globally. On 12 February 1979 the Chinese Communist Party ordered a halt to its publication.
