Red Terror (Hungary)

1919 · 20th century

The Red Terror in Hungary was the campaign of repression carried out by the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919 against its real and supposed enemies. Revolutionary tribunals and armed squads, notably Tibor Szamuely's Lenin Boys, executed several hundred people, many after peasant revolts. It was followed after the regime's fall by a larger White Terror.
