Revolución Libertadora

1955–1958 · 20th century · Also known as Liberating Revolution

The Revolución Libertadora, or Liberating Revolution, was the military coup of September 1955 that overthrew Juan Perón and the military government that followed until 1958, led first by Eduardo Lonardi and then by Pedro Eugenio Aramburu. It banned Peronism, repressed a Peronist rising in 1956 with executions, and restored the constitution of 1853.
