Saint Remigius

c. 437–533 · 5th century · Also known as Remigius of Reims, Saint Remi

Saint Remigius (c. 437–533) was bishop of Reims for more than seventy years. He wrote to Clovis I on his accession, implying that the young Frankish king exercised Roman authority in Belgica Secunda, and later baptised Clovis at Reims, an event variously dated between 496 and 508. The baptism made the Franks Catholic and tied the Merovingian kings to the church of Reims.
