Saint Waltrude

died c. 688 · 7th century · Also known as Saint Waudru

Saint Waltrude was a Frankish noblewoman who founded a religious community at Mons in Hainaut in the seventh century, around which the town grew. Married to Vincent Madelgarius and the mother of children also venerated as saints, she withdrew to a life of prayer. She is the patron saint of Mons, and her relics are carried through the town each year in the Car d'Or procession.
