Sancho II of Pamplona

d. 994 · 10th century · Also known as Sancho Garcés II, Sancho Abarca

Sancho II Garcés, called Abarca, was king of Pamplona from 970 to 994, son of García Sánchez I. Following his father's will, he gave the Rioja lands around Viguera to his brother Ramiro with the title of king. Pressed by the raids of Almanzor, he became a tributary of the Caliphate of Córdoba and gave a daughter in marriage to Almanzor; she became the mother of Abd al-Rahman Sanchuelo.
